Carter Phillips is a World Poker Tour title away from the poker hat trick. Wednesday evening at the Rio, Phillips won event No. 16 (no-limit hold’em six handed) at his first ever World Series of Poker . The 21-year-old dominated the final table of the event, needing less than three levels of play to walk away with the $482,774 first-place prize. Phillips had already accumulated over $1,000,000 in live tournament earnings before his 21st birthday in October of last year, thanks to the 2009 PokerStars European Poker Tour Barcelona Main Event he won for $1,212,263. The young pro now just needs a WPT victory to join Gavin Griffin and Roland De Wolfe as the only players who have won a title in all three major competitions. Phillips said he will play as many WPT events as he can in the near future, but the more alluring goal is to repeat his success on the EPT . “My main goal now after this is to be the first two-time EPT [main event] winner,” Phillips said. However, even with his poker favoritism going to the European circuit, Phillips holds his first victory at the WSOP in the highest regard. “The second table I had today was by far the toughest table I have ever played at in any tournament,” Phillips said. “I think the European tour is softer than [the field] deep in these WSOP tournaments. I think this is a bigger accomplishment.” Here is a look at the final results: 1. Carter Phillips — $482,774 2. Sam Gerber — $298,726 3. Craig Bergeron — $189,661 4. Hugo Perez — $124,690 5. Russell Thomas — $84,256 6.
