The Foxwoods Poker Classic began on Saturday, March 13 with a $200 no-limit hold’em shootout event. The tournament series will run between now and the conclusion of the $3,500 no-limit hold’em championship event March 28. “A few unique things about the tournament this year: we dropped the championship event buy-in down to $3,500 due to recent trending in tournament poker, and also there are two tournaments every day, with a no-limit event at 11 a.m. and a non-no-limit hold’em event at 1 p.m.,” said Foxwoods spokesman and poker professional Bernard Lee (pictured right) . There will be a total of 19 tournaments hosted at this series, spreading no-limit and limit hold’em, pot-limit Omaha, seven-card stud, and Omaha and stud eight-or-better. There will also be a ladies no-limit hold’em event that takes place on Saturday, March 20. The highlight so far has been a $500 no-limit hold’em event, which attracted 295 players and created a prize pool worth $125,906. The winner was Christopher Barnes, and he was awarded $32,799. Consistent professional Vinny Pahuja also made the final table at the event and cashed in seventh place, adding $5,162 to his career earnings of $839,558. With three events officially in the books, the Foxwoods Poker Classic has attracted 1,298 players and awarded prize money worth $310,157. There will be $800 super-satellites for the $3,500 no-limit hold’em championship that run daily between now and March 24 at 6 p.m. There will also be an additional $800 super-satellite at 10 a.m. on March 24. Players also have the option to win their way into the championship event in satellite act events ( PDF ) with buy-ins of $100, $120, and $400. These events give players a number of ways to win their way into the championship tournament and they run daily between 10 a.m. and midnight. The championship event begins at noon on Thursday, March 25 and the final table will crown a champion on Sunday, March 28. Players will begin with 30,000 in chips in the championship event and levels will be 75-minutes long.
