The PokerStars.net Million Dollar Challenge debuted last Sunday, and according to PokerStars representatives, it was the most-watched poker program this year. This Sunday on Fox, a new contestant is getting a shot at $1 million, and that person is Sergeant First Class Denny Luna. Luna, a 20-year Iraq war veteran, is currently serving as an operations NCO for the Army National Guard’s 2120th engineer company out of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, with 151 soldiers under his command. His future goals include retiring from the Army and becoming a teacher and mentor to young children. A successful run on this show could help him do just that. For the first round, Luna will face a celebrity such as Super Bowl Champion Jerome Bettis, four-time NBA Champion John Salley, UFC champion Tito Ortiz, or Playboy Playmate Jayde Nicole. If he wins, Sgt. Luna will receive a vacation to the Bahamas. If he wins the first round, he’ll move on to face a Team PokerStars.net pro and play for $25,000. During the first two rounds, Luna will get coaching advice from Daniel Negreanu. Should Luna win two matches, he’ll have to decide whether or not to take the $25,000 and walk away or risk it for a chance at $100,000 in a heads-up match against Negreanu. If he then wins the match against Negreanu, he will keep the money and also play in a sit-and-go against other $100,000 winners for a chance to play Negreanu one more time for $1 million. The episode will premiere on Fox after the NFL , but check local listings as it will air before NFL action in some markets.PokerStars is also offering an extra incentive to watch the show by running a $20,000 viewer’s freeroll. A special password will be announced this Sunday for viewers to gain access into an exclusive online freeroll tournament with a first-place prize of $20,000.Contestants can win their way onto the show by finishing in the top 10 in one of the four daily freeroll tournaments on PokerStars (8 p.m., 9 p.m., 10 p.m., 11 p.m. ET). The qualifiers must then submit a 60-second video about themselves and include why they deserve to star in the new show. Officials at PokerStars will review the tapes, and select the winners. Each person selected will receive round-trip airfare and accommodations to the show’s taping in Los Angeles for themselves and two friends.Freerolls onto the show will run until Nov. 25, so there is still plenty of time left to qualify.
