Date JULY 27 2022
The third and final day of play at the World Poker Tour Marrakech €4,500 no-limit hold’em championship saw 17 players return to action from the original field of 416. The top prize was €377,262, and the day would not end until one player walked away with that prize. Ludovic Lacay (pictured right) , Benjamin Spindler , and Tristan Clemencon were the headliners when the final day began, and during the play-down period to the final table of six, Clemencon fell in 10th place (€23,025). It took just over five hours to reach the final table of six, and Lacay was the chip leader with just over 2 million when it began. Spindler was the first player to fall from the final six when he moved all in for 280,000 preflop, and Lacay called him down. Lacay held A-8, and Spindler K-4. The board rolled out Q-3-2-K-A to give Lacay the win on the river and eliminate Spindler in sixth place (€55,828). Almost an hour later, Adrian Marin moved all in preflop, and Christophe Savary made the call. Marin held A-5, and Savary held pocket sevens. The board ran out 10-10-6-K-6, and Savary won the pot with two pair, tens and sevens. Marin was eliminated in fifth place (€72,240). There was an hour-and-a-half between the eliminations that took place after that, and during that time Julien Arneodo doubled up, and Savary stole the chip lead from Lacay. The fourth-place elimination finally came at the misfortune of Arneodo. He was all in preflop in a good spot with A-6 in the hole against the A-5 of Lacay, but the board fell K-3-3-5-7, and Arneodo was eliminated in fourth place (€105,077). The most recognizable player left in the tournament fell next. Lacay moved all in preflop for 1.4 million after Savary opened the action for 160,000. Savary made the call, and they turned over their cards: Savary: A 10 Lacay: K J Board: 9 8 2 7 2 Lacay was eliminated in third place (€164,182), and Savary increased his chip lead heading into heads-up play against Eoghan O’Dea (the son of famous poker player Donnacha O’Dea ). Heads-Up Chip Counts: Savary: 5,060,000 O’Dea: 3,260,000 The final match lasted a half hour. O’Dea won the first hand of consequence between the two, but he was never able to get anything going before the fatal blow. On the final hand, Savary made it 160,000 to go from the button, and O’Dea reraised to 420,000 from the big blind. The flop was dealt A 9 6 , and O’Dea bet 400,000. Savary raised all in, and O’Dea made the call. Savary flipped over 8 7 , and O’Dea showed down A 3 . The turn and river fell 10 and Q , and Savary won the tournament with a straight. O’Dea was eliminated in second place (€262,446). Savary was awarded €377,262 as the champion of the event, and he took home his first major tournament win. Final Table Results: 1: Christophe Savary — €377,262 2: Eoghan O’Dea — €262,446 3: Ludovic Lacay — €164,182 4: Julien Arneodo — €105,077 5: Adrian Marin — €72,240 6: Benjamin Spindler — €55,828 The next WPT event will be the Festa al Lago Classic at Bellagio in Las Vegas, which begins on Wednesday, Oct. 21.
