It was a long day 1a at the 2009 PokerStars EPT London Main Event . With 307 players registered thus far and another day to go, the field is well on its way to beating last year’s mark of 596. The long night of the WSOP Europe Main Event was evident on many player’s faces who stayed up to see Barry Shulman walk away with the top prize. Nonetheless, the action was anything but sluggish coming out of the gate. In fact, despite hour-long levels and a starting stack of 30,000, the field still managed to whittle itself down to a very manageable 135 or so players. Team PokerStars pro Maria “maridu” Mayrinck (pictured right) got things started early on in the day when she got involved in a large pot holding top set over another player’s set. Things continued to look good for her and she finished the day near the top with 115,700. Other players at or near the top of the leaderboard inlude Mario Cordero (218,000), Kevin MacPhee (176,000) (pictured left) , Darren Woods (164,000), Mortiz Schmejkal (157,000), Martin Gudvangen (156,000) and Maximillian Heinzelmann (149,000). While those players did well, others such as Shaun Deeb , Sandra Naujoks , Marc Goodwin , Michael McDonald , Carter Phillips , Johnny Lodden , Mike Matusow , Marcel Luske and Sebastian Ruthenberg failed to get anything going. A larger starting field is expected for Saturday as the London Poker Festival continues to roll on with its 16-event series.
