Date JULY 27 2022
The Southern Poker Championship is currently underway at the Beau Rivage Resort & Casino in Biloxi, Mississippi. There will be 34 events played from Jan. 7-27, highlighted by the World Poker Tour’s first championship event of 2011. The $10,000 WPT main event starts at noon CST on Jan. 23 and concludes with the televised final table playing to a winner on Jan. 27. A year ago, the WPT Southern Poker Championship event attracted 208 players and created a prize pool of $1,930,000. The Alabama Cowboy Hoyt Corkins blew through the field to claim the $739,486 top prize and his second WPT title. On the days leading up to this year’s $10,000 main event, numerous satellites will be played offering entry. A $1,000 WPT Next Stop satellite tournament will take place on Jan. 24, offering entry into the next WPT main event at the L.A. Poker Classic on Feb. 25. Some of the larger buy-in events taking place at the SPC include the $2,500 pot limit Omaha championship on Jan. 20., a $2,500 heads up tournament on Jan. 24 and a $2,500 8-game mix tournament on Jan. 25. The schedule also includes seniors event and a ladies event, both with a $300 buy-in. Check back with Card Player for a recap at the conclusion of the WPT championship event.
