The first World Series of Poker Circuit event of 2011 is underway, playing for the first time outside a Harrah’s-affiliated property. The WSOPC debuted at the Choctaw Casino Resort in Durant, Oklahoma on January 6, and attendance has been impressive so far. Bringing in players from across the Texas-Oklahoma region, the first ring event of the series ($345 no-limit hold’em) drew in a field of 935 players, creating a prize pool of $267,930. The event was won by Texas-native David Clark for $50,921. The second ring event ($555 no-limit hold’em) brought in 566 player entries with James Bullard , also of Texas, earning the ring and $56,772 top prize. Running Jan. 6-24, this inaugural visit to the Choctaw Casino is packed with a total of 51 events, including 10 ring events. The three-day $1,600 no-limit hold’em main event begins on Jan. 22, and it’s expected to see a nice turnout. Players participating in the main event will start with 20,000 in chips. Blinds begin at 25-50 and levels will last for 40 minutes through the first day of play, 60 minutes during Day 2, and 75 minutes on the final day. Players participating in all ring events will receive WSOPC leader board points according to their performances, and the winner of the main event will receive an automatic entry into the $1 million WSOPC National Championship set to take place in Vegas in May. Nine stops remain on the WSOPC tour, including two more regional championships. The next stop will be at Harrah’s Tunica in Mississippi, beginning Jan. 27 and continuing until Feb. 15. Stay tuned to Card Player for a recap of the WSOPC Choctaw main event.
