Date JULY 27 2022
The L.A. Poker Classic tournament series will get underway Wednesday with its first of 54 scheduled events over the next six weeks at the Commerce Casino in Los Angeles. The first event is a five-day $335 buy-in no-limit hold’em tournament with a $1 million guarantee. It will feature four starting days, with day 1A beginning at 1 p.m. PST Wednesday. Last year’s field contained 5,847 entrants, creating a prize pool of $1.6 million. Darrell Cain took first place for $363,936. The tournament series will end on Mar. 3, with a winner being crowned in the $10,000 World Poker Tour no-limit hold’em main event. There were 745 players who entered the 2010 main event. It was Andras Koroknai who took home the biggest chunk of the $7.1 million prize pool — beating Raymond Dolan heads up for the $1.7 million first-place prize. Along the way there will be opportunities for players to participate in a variety of games, including Texas hold’em, pot-limit Omaha, seven-card stud, Omaha eight-or-better, seven-card stud eight-or-better, H.O.R.S.E., mixed games, deuce-to-seven single draw, and even a special Chinese poker event. Buy-ins range from $125 to $25,100. Some of the largest events will include a $5,100 heads-up championship (Feb. 22), a $5,100 eight-game mix championship (Feb. 17), and a $25,100 high roller event (Feb. 27). The $10,000 WPT main event begins Feb. 25 and is expected to draw more than 600 participants, creating a prize pool of more than $6 million. Stay tuned to Card Player for a recap of the action.
