It wasn’t quite a wire-to-wire victory, but Maxim Lykov did what a final table chip leader should do and used his well-earned ammunition to claim his first World Series of Poker bracelet in event no. 54, the last $1,000 no-limit hold’em event of the summer. The Russian pro defeated 2,644 players over the course of the five-day event and earned $648,880 for his efforts. Lykov now has over $3.2 million in career winnings and his quietly put together one of the more impressive years on the tournament circuit. In January, Lykov final tabled the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure $25,000 High Roller Event, finishing third for $369,490. In May, he finished fourth in the EPT San Remo Main Event, where he banked $430,621.
